Unexplained Infertility
If you've unsuccessfully tried to conceive for a long time and your OB-GYN can't find an obvious structural problem, you have what doctors call "unexplained infertility". Most cases of unexplained infertility are caused by a wide range of problems that disrupt proper ovulation. Without proper ovulation, a woman will not become pregnant – and ovulation problems are frequently a result of hormone imbalances from a wide variety of causes. Here are some of the additional factors that may cause infertility:
- Smoking
- Poor Diet
- Heavy alcohol use (more than 3-4 drinks a day)
- Stress
- Diabetes
- Over training
- Being obese or underweight
- History of STDs, especially ones that cause pelvic inflammatory disease
- History of endometriosis or PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)
- Thyroid issues
- Radiation treatment and/or chemotherapy for cancer
- Being age 30 or older
